We spent several hours exploring the charming and relatively quiet old streets of the neighborhood surrounding our hotel in Chengdu, near Wenshu Temple. Consisting of alleyways snaking through two city blocks, it was a great place to buy souvenirs and sample the local snacks, if you dare.
I drank a cup of freshly pressed sugar cane juice, which was predictably sweet but not off-putting. The adorably presented pineapple fried rice was moist and flavorful. The same could not be said for the fried insect kebabs or roasted rabbit heads, which none of us were brave enough to try. I prefer my food without teeth.
Would you have tried the rabbit heads?

What a cute place this was. I would never be brave enough to eat any of that food. I never saw anyone eat any of the insects. Mom
